Habits - 365 Questions for a Woman's Soul

habits - How can I establish good habits that will result in lasting change?

Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.

1 Timothy 4:8

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Romans 12:2

Blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.

Luke 11:28

A HABIT is a routine of behavior repeated regularly and usually unconsciously. Obviously, most of us want our good habits, not our bad ones, to become second nature to us. Whether we realize this or not, everything we do is training our hearts either toward God or away from him. When we regularly watch a TV show, we are training our hearts. When we choose day after day to pray instead of worry, we are training our hearts. Therefore, it is essential that we develop the habit of “exercising” our hearts in the practice of moving ever closer to God. Take time to think about your current habits. Which ones help you grow toward God? Which ones don’t? The goal is to create habits that change not only your behavior but also your heart. Those habits will stay with you forever. Only when you recognize the places where you currently live apart from God can you prayerfully develop routines that will daily draw you to him and not away.
