fairness - How should I respond when life doesn’t seem fair? [The Lord said,] “You say, ‘The Lord isn’t doing what’s right!’ Listen to me, O people of Israel. Am I the one not doing what’s right, or is it you?” Ezekiel 18:25 Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?” Romans 9:20 The Lord . . . does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice. Isaiah 9:7 God’s way is perfect. Psalm 18:30 SOMETHING inside of us longs for fairness. However, the fact is that life really isn’t fair. Life seems relatively easy for some, while others have years full of struggle. God doesn’t give us all the same circumstances, jobs, families, or environment in which to live. Whether we find ourselves feeling resentful when life feels unfair or sad for those who are less fortunate, we can look to God’s Word to gain perspective on how he interacts with his creation. We can trust that God is sovereign over all the world, that he loves each of us the same, and that he desires the same salvation for us all.
