answers - Does God always answer prayer?

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, . . . “My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

2 Corinthians 12:8-9

You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior.

Psalm 65:5

The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

James 5:16

What mighty praise, O God, belongs to you . . . for you answer our prayers.

Psalm 65:1-2

GOD LISTENS CAREFULLY to every prayer, but his answer may be yes, no, or wait. Doesn’t any loving parent give all three of these responses to her child at different times? If God answered yes to every request, we would not learn or have the opportunity to grow in faith. If he answered no each time, our spirits would feel defeated and we might begin to think God was vindictive. If he answered wait to every prayer, we would be frustrated. God always answers, but he does so based on what he knows is best for us. When we don’t get the answer we want, we shouldn’t misinterpret it as silence from God but rather as a signal to point us in a specific direction. Our spiritual maturity will grow as we seek to understand how God’s answer is what is best for us. So whatever you have been praying for, don’t give up. God can be trusted with your prayers.
