A prayer for Comfort
In times of distress, how can I experience God’s comfort?
God in heaven,
You don’t always act in the way I might expect, and that is a blessing. I sometimes expect you to comfort me by providing things that I want or need; instead, you often reassure me with your presence. How awesome that your comfort is so personal. Things are temporary, but you are eternal. My needs and wants are constantly changing, so material provisions can provide comfort only for a time. But you, God, are the only source of comfort at all times. I am so grateful that every time I need comfort, you show up—not with presents, but with your abiding presence.
I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. . . . You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16:8, 11
