Your Own Eternal Home - The One Year Devotions for Men on the Go
Your Own Eternal Home
Read John 14:1-7
There are many rooms in my Father’s home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. John 14:2
In today’s Bible verse, the word prepare literally means to make something fit for a specific use. The idea here is that Jesus is using his time and expertise to make you an eternal home that perfectly meets your particular needs and desires.
In preparing this everlasting home for you, Jesus is putting action behind his love. He is a living example of this truth: When you love someone, you go the extra mile for that person.
In 1990 I built a home for my family. It was a long year of hard work. There were countless details to oversee and endless tasks to accomplish in order to create the right place for my family to live. That year I held down a job and built a house. It meant long hours of work, but it didn’t matter to me. All that mattered was my family. I loved my wife and children, and I knew they needed a home. But I also knew that they were not capable of building one on their own, so I committed myself to providing it for them.
Likewise, Jesus loves you and knows you need an eternal home to live in. He also knows that you are not capable of building this home yourself, so he has made a commitment to provide it for you. He is taking great pains to prepare it. He is watching over the countless details and joyfully assigning the endless tasks required to give you an eternal dwelling place that is perfectly suited for you.
Oh Master Builder, thank you for preparing the perfect place for me to spend eternity with you.
