God Of The Impossible - The One Year Devotions for Men on the Go
God of the Impossible
Read Genesis 41:1-57
“It is beyond my power to do this,” Joseph replied. “But God will tell you what it means and will set you at ease.” Genesis 41:16
Every once in a while, God asks each of us to do the impossible. Part of our development as men is learning to face the impossible, knowing that the power of God, and only the power of God, can accomplish it.
Without conquering the impossible, we are merely guys fumbling through life. But when we conquer that which only God can conquer for us, we ourselves rise to a level worthy of partnership with God.
Others had tried to do what Pharaoh asked Joseph to do—interpret the meaning of his dream—but, as Pharaoh told Joseph, “None of these men can tell me what it means” (Genesis 41:15). Those other men had proven that interpreting the dream was a human impossibility, thus setting the stage for Joseph’s finest moment.
Joseph was aware of his inadequacy but was confident in God’s power working within him.
Anonymity would have been easier for Joseph at that point, but that was not God’s plan for him. As soon as Joseph committed himself to partnering with God, the Lord went into action and made the impossible happen—he gave Joseph the interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream.
At some point, God will ask you to do the impossible. It may not be something as dramatic as interpreting a dream, but it will be something equally beyond your abilities. He knows how little you can do on your own and how much he can accomplish through you. He longs for the day when you will step past the barriers that hold you back and step forward with his ability to do the impossible. He applauds when you take your eyes off your own abilities and put your trust in him for what he can do.
Are you ready?
Oh God, prepare me for the day when you do the impossible through me.
