Great Expectations - In the Morning When I Rise
Great Expectations
Lord, what can I expect from you?
I am a faithful God who keeps my covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes my unfailing love on those who love me and obey my commands. I am merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. I am good to everyone. I shower compassion on all my creation. I always keep my promises; I am gracious in all I do.
Deuteronomy 7:9; Psalm 145:8-9, 13
How can I learn more about what you have promised me?
Study my Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your life. For all of my promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” Hold tightly without wavering to the hope you affirm, for I can be trusted to keep my promise.
Joshua 1:8; Colossians 3:16; 2 Corinthians 1:20; Hebrews 10:23
How can I pray with expectation of your faithfulness?
I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength.
Psalm 138:2-3
We can expect God to keep every promise he has given us in his Word. Allow God’s promises to sink deep into your heart. The more you know God, the more his promises will provide you with strength, perseverance, and encouragement. Find a promise from God’s Word and write it down. (Some suggestions: Psalm 32:8; Acts 16:31; 1 John 1:9; Isaiah 41:10; Romans 8:38.) Meditate on this promise as you anticipate God’s faithfulness to keep it.
