When You’re Called Out Of Your Comfort Zone - In the Evening When I Rest
When You’re Called Out Of Your Comfort Zone
Lord, will you ever call me to do something that seems risky?
I said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.” I said to Moses, “Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.”
Genesis 12:1; Exodus 3:10
How can I find the courage to follow you even in uncertainty?
Anyone who wants to come to me must believe that I exist and that I reward those who sincerely seek me. It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when I called him to leave home and go to another land that I would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. And even when he reached the land I promised him, he lived there by faith. Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by me.
Hebrews 11:6, 8-10
What can I pray to find the courage to follow you despite the risks?
Lord, you are my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? You are my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
Psalm 27:1
In C. S. Lewis’s classic book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the character Susan asks Mr. Beaver about Aslan, the king of Narnia, “Is he—quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion.” . . . “Safe?” said Mr. Beaver. “. . . Who said anything about safe? ’Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good.”a What is the one thing that holds you back from taking risks for God? Pray Psalm 27:1 for courage to follow God no matter the risk.
