Learning To Forgive Yourself - In the Evening When I Rest

Learning To Forgive Yourself

Lord, if I can’t forgive myself for my mistakes, how could you forgive me?

Come now, let’s settle this. Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.

Isaiah 1:18; Isaiah 43:25; Isaiah 1:5

But Lord, what if I’ve done some really horrible things?

Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners. Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. So rejoice in me and be glad, all you who obey me! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure! Yes, what joy for those whose record I have cleared of guilt.

Mark 2:17; Isaiah 54:4; Romans 8:1; Psalm 32:11; Psalm 32:2

How can I express my gratitude for your forgiveness in prayer?

You forgave me! All my guilt is gone. In you my heart rejoices, for I trust in your holy name.

Psalm 32:5; Psalm 33:21

It can feel incredibly difficult to forgive yourself for the mistakes you have made, especially when you see the impact of those choices. But forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. What is one mistake from your past that makes it hard to receive forgiveness? Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 as a reminder of how God sees you after you have been forgiven.
