Trust In The Waiting - Cultivating a Still Heart in a Noisy World

Trust in the Waiting

“In quietness and trust is your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15, NIV)

Our culture is not good at waiting. Everywhere we turn, we are tempted to take matters into our own hands. But it’s not just an “out there” cultural problem, it’s also an “in here” problem. It’s in our hearts to want to make things happen for ourselves. Recently, I found myself stressed because I was believing that something wasn’t happening because I hadn’t had the time to tackle a specific list of to-dos. But that’s when I was brought back to Isaiah 30:15 that says, “In quietness and trust is your strength.”

Sometimes I am tempted to think trust is the same thing as passivity—but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Trust is believing that “God who began a good work in you will bring it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).

Quiet faith and trust aren’t an absence of stewardship; they flow from faithful stewardship.

It’s doing the work in front of us and trusting the outcome to God.
It’s loving our friend regardless remembering God sees us.
It’s a willingness to wait for our desires because we trust God’s perfect timing.

Let me ask you: what are you waiting for? And to follow up on that, how are you waiting?

The biggest way to magnify Jesus in a broken world is to wait well. Wait with faith. Wait without the need to control. Wait without worry for tomorrow, trusting that just like the birds, God provides for every single one of our needs (Matthew 6:26-27).

Challenge:

Journal about an area of your life you’ve been struggling to trust God in the waiting. Pray that God would help you surrender while acknowledging that He is working in the waiting.
