Detox - A Simply Healthy Life

Detox

“…your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…” (1 Corinthians 6:19, NLT)

We talked yesterday about the things we’re putting in our bodies. Today we’re talking about what we need to get out.

Our bodies have detoxification pathways that help us do just that. But we are bombarded with significantly more toxins in our modern world than our ancestors were, and our “toxin buckets” can get overloaded fast.

Food can be the cure we need in a lot of cases. But other times, we need to look at minimizing our toxin burdens and find the root cause of diseases or symptoms.

And great news: this process of ridding our bodies and homes of toxins also prevents future disease! We often settle for the symptoms we have because they are common, meaning maybe everyone we know experiences the same thing! (Like that 3 p.m. energy crash when it seems like the only solution is another cup of Joe!). But just because something is common does not make it normal.

I’m here to help you optimize your health. We’re not just working to minimize symptoms, we are looking for true healing and thriving.

Water is often considered a macro nutrient (like protein, fat, and carbohydrates) because we need so much of it to survive! So the purity of your drinking water is critically important, especially when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) currently only regulates about ninety contaminants in our drinking water, meaning there are literally thousands of contaminants that aren’t even measured, tested, or regulated. Some examples of contaminants that aren’t currently monitored include: pesticides, disinfection by-products, chemicals used in commerce, waterborne pathogens, pharmaceuticals, and biological toxins.

Purifying your drinking water in whatever you see fit is a great way to benefit your health!

Once your water is purified, drink more! Drinking water helps your body function ideally, and it also helps flush toxins. A safe goal is to drink the ounces per day that equal half your body weight in pounds. You can add in a sugar-free electrolyte mix to put crucial minerals in your body.

Eating organic is a great way to avoid harmful chemicals like glyphosate sprayed on crops. Check the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen list for the most important fruits and vegetables to buy organic.

Chemicals aren’t just in our food and water. Unfortunately, harmful chemicals can also be in our cleaning products and personal care products, which pollute our air and our bodies. Making the swap to cleaner products can massively reduce your toxin load!

Here are some other tips to aid in your body’s detoxification processes and keep your organs used for detox in tip-top shape: Use our guide from yesterday’s study to prioritize “all the time” foods, move daily, sleep seven or more hours nightly, hydrate, have at least one bowel movement daily, eat (or take a supplement) internal organs (like heart, liver, and kidney), drink green juices, drink herbal teas, take a detoxification bath, breathe in salty air, get a specialized lymphatic drainage massage, try trampoline jumping (rebounding), try dry brushing before a hot shower, take digestive enzymes, increase your fiber intake, take specialized supplements, and sweat it out in a Swedish sauna or infrared sauna.
