Who Is Your Source? - A Minute of Vision for Men
Who Is Your Source?
One of the biggest mistakes that married people make is viewing their spouse as their source for joy, peace, and hope. When this happens, there is a relational breakdown. This breakdown is inevitable because one’s spouse can never fill the holes in one’s soul. A lack of awareness of this fact, though, leads to many frustrating and disappointing moments as well as deep relational pain.
Did you know that God never intended for you to view your spouse as your source for joy, peace, and hope? God intended to give man to woman and woman to man to complement each other and provide community and companionship. But he didn’t try to give the woman to the man or the man to the woman to make one the source of joy, peace, and hope for the other. Only God can do this, because only he is the source of these things.
My favorite verse in the New Testament is Romans 15:13: “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” God longs to pour into our lives the very things we need.
Ask the Lord to give you the joy and peace that you need so that you can have an overflowing hope. Then, see your spouse as God intended—as a blessing and gift from God to be a complement to you.
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
