Beautiful Word Devotional #2

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

1 John 3:1

A long time ago roller skates were not smooth riding like they are today. They used to be metal-wheeled contraptions that clamped onto your tennis shoes. If you were lucky enough (depending on your attitude toward fire), sparks would fly from the wheels as you bumped along.

Thinking about roller skates reminds me about childhood—a time of freedom, creativity, and belonging. Some of us have smooth memories—of laughter and joy. Others have metal-contraption memories—of rough riding and unwanted sparks.

Regardless of your childhood, whether you were well loved by your parents or even abandoned, the truth still remains: you are loved. The God who created you, who fashioned you in your mother’s womb, cheers for you and loves you with abandon. If that’s hard to comprehend, it’s okay. Your feelings do not alter the bedrock truth of God’s lavish love.

Lord, it’s hard to fathom that you actually love me, that you call me your beloved child. Help me to live in light of that beautiful truth today, amen.
