Words - 365 Questions for a Woman's Soul

words - How powerful are the words I speak?

Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Ephesians 4:29

Take control of what I say, O LORD, and guard my lips.

Psalm 141:3

If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.

James 1:26

I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.

Matthew 12:36-37

OUR WORDS ARE GIFTS we can give to God and others. Even though our tongues are small, they hold incredible power. They can be used to praise God and bless others, but if they are not controlled, they can set our whole lives on fire (James 3:5-6). If we have a tendency to complain, gossip, use profanity, or criticize others, then perhaps God desires to help us change how we use our words. We can change our speech by becoming aware of what comes out of our mouths and then, with the power of the Holy Spirit, changing destructive words into those that are gracious, thankful, encouraging, loving, truthful, and a blessing to others. What kind of impact do you want your words to have on others? If your mouth continually causes you to make mistakes, remember God’s grace. Learning to bless others with our words takes a lifetime, and it’s something we continually need God’s help with.
