Listening To Others - 365 Questions for a Woman's Soul

listening to others - How do I become a good listener?

The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking.

Proverbs 15:28

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

James 1:19

Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.

Proverbs 1:23

If you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.

Proverbs 15:32

GOD CALLS US to be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” Sadly, too often we are slow to listen, quick to speak, and quick to get angry. Listening is an art, one that is close to God’s heart. Since God always listens to us, we minister to others by listening to them. Listening is a form of love. We show others they are valuable when we listen with respect, care, and patience and refrain from interrupting with our own thoughts and advice. Can you set aside your schedule and distractions to be fully present to hear another? If this is hard for you, ask God to show you how you could lovingly listen better—both to him and to others. Be encouraged that God desires to shape your heart into one that loves others well through the ministry of listening.
