A Prayer About The Way

A prayer about The Way

When I need assurance of my salvation

MY GOD AND MY SALVATION,

I can identify with the questioning, doubting, and often stumbling disciples. One time when Jesus was trying to assure them of their destiny, they became confused and asked about “the way.” I can hear Jesus answering them and speaking to me: “I am the way.” Thank you, Lord, for providing the way for me to come to you. Jesus said “the way,” not “a way,” implying that there is only one way. Then to make sure everyone understood, he added, “No one can come to the Father except through me.” Contemporary religion says many roads lead to the same destination, and that Jesus is just one of them. But I know better, Lord, because I know you. When Jesus left this earth, he went to prepare a place for all believers, for me. Someday soon I will go there to live with him forever. And I’m on my way, the way, there. Whenever I need assurance of my salvation, help me remember this incident, this story. I have Jesus, and he is all I need.

[Jesus said,] “When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:3-6
